Water Department Schedules Pipe Maintenance for Thursday
The Brookside Water Department has announced that scheduled pipe maintenance will take place this Thursday, April 20, as part of an ongoing effort to improve water infrastructure across the town. The work will affect several residential blocks in the northeast quadrant of Brookside and is expected to cause temporary water service interruptions throughout the day.
According to Water Department Director James Connelly, the maintenance will involve replacing a section of aging water main along Maple Street between 9th and 12th Avenues. The existing pipe, installed in the early 1970s, has shown signs of wear in recent inspections and is being replaced to prevent future issues such as leaks, bursts, and water discoloration.
“This is routine but important work,” Connelly said in a press release. “The infrastructure in that area has served us well for over 50 years, but it’s time to upgrade before problems arise. We’re trying to stay ahead of potential issues rather than waiting for a crisis to occur.”
Work will begin at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Thursday and is scheduled to continue until about 4:00 p.m., weather permitting. During that time, residents in the immediate area may experience low water pressure or complete water service interruptions. Connelly emphasized that the work is not expected to impact water quality once service is restored.
Advance notice was sent out earlier in the week via email, door hangers, and automated phone calls to affected households. The department has advised residents to fill containers with water ahead of time for drinking, cooking, and other basic needs. Residents are also being asked to limit water use on Thursday to help reduce pressure on the system while work is underway.
